Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) was created in 1967. Today, Metrorail serves 86 stations and has 106 miles of track. Metrobus serves the nation’s capital with 1,500 buses and provides about 1.5 million trips per year.

WMATA purchased the DE40LFA model. This hybrid-electric diesel bus is more fuel-efficient than a standard diesel configuration. This model has advanced BRT styling that makes the bus look sleeker than our standard low-floor model.

Jan 15, 2010 - New Flyer Industries Inc. announced today that the total order activity during the fourth quarter of 2009 totaled 711 buses (753 equivalent production units or “EUs”) for a total of $308 million. This total order activity consisted of new firm and new option orders of 506 buses (531 EUs) and exercised options of 205 buses (222 EUs).
